The Quebec government recently passed Bill 72 requiring businesses to calculate tips based on the pre-tax sales amount by no later than May 7, 2025.

To comply with this new legislation, changes will need to be made to your current terminal and/or solution after May 1, 2025. Refer to the next section section for download instructions for your payment device(s).

Depending on your payment device, your next steps may or may not involve action on your part. The following are instructions to help you identify what your business needs to do to get ready for the May 7 compliance date.

Standalone and Semi-integrated devices

Here's what to expect: For the following Standalone and Semi-integrated devices, percentage tipping must be disabled in order to be compliant with Bill 72. Following these instructions will program your terminal to only allow tipping by amount.

DX8000 device

Here's what to expect: DX8000 device users will need to update their terminals to the latest version in order for suggested tip percentages to be calculated on the pre-tax amount. Please follow the instructions to update your device.

Here's what to expect: T650C or T650P device users will need to update their terminals to the latest version in order for suggested tip percentages to be calculated on the pre-tax amount. Please follow the instructions to update your device.

PAX A920 / CASTLES S1000F / S1000E devices

Here's what to expect: PAX A920 / CASTLES S1000F / S1000E device users will need to update their terminals to remove suggested percentage tipping from the payment device. This change allows card holders to continue to tip on a dollar value rather than on a percentage.

You also have the option to change devices and switch to a Global Payments Terminal, model T650P device.



FLEX Semi-integrated devices

Here's what to expect: FLEX Semi-integrated device users must disable percentage tipping in order to be compliant with Bill 72. This needs to occur locally on your payment device, as we can’t push this change on your device for you. Following these instructions will program your terminal to allow tipping by amount only.


1. From the terminal, select “Menu” Select “Configuration” > “Enter” (Green button)

2. Enter the Administrator Password > “Enter” (Green button)

3. Press the down arrow and scroll to “Tip” > Enter (Green button)

4. Press the down arrow and scroll to “$ only” > Enter (Green button)
